Goal
The redevelopment of Hillmorton Hospital set out to create a modern mental health campus designed to support both patients and clinical teams. The project introduced two new state-of-the-art buildings: one dedicated to integrated family services, and the other a 16-bed inpatient unit for adults experiencing acute mental health conditions.
For us that meant delivering furniture solutions that went beyond function to actively contribute to a therapeutic, calming, and safe environment for patients, staff, and whānau.
How We Went About It
Healthcare environments, particularly mental health facilities, require more than just functional furniture. They must foster a sense of calm, security, and connection. For Hillmorton Hospital is was essential that the interior spaces contribute positively to the recovery journey of patients, while also supporting clinical needs and staff workflows.
We worked closely with project stakeholders to ensure every piece of furniture aligned with hospital's therapeutic and operational goals. Special consideration was given to:
- Finishes & Fabrics: Soft, durable, and infection-control–compliant materials were selected to promote comfort and wellbeing.
- Functionality: Furniture was tailored to the unique requirements of each space, from clinical areas to family-focused environments.
- Safety & Comfort: Products were chosen to minimise risk while creating a welcoming, home-like atmosphere—crucial in mental health care settings.
Our approach combined technical expertise with empathy, ensuring the fit-out supported both recovery and daily operations.
