The University of Auckland wanted to trial a fresh concept for front-of-house information services—one that combined functionality with a welcoming, contemporary aesthetic. The vision was to create a clear concierge point so students knew exactly where to go for support. This concierge desk design was then rolled out across all Student Information Services, providing a consistent touchpoint that supports day-to-day operations while elevating the first impressions of visitors, students, and staff.

We partnered with Architectus and the University project team to translate early design concepts into reality. Custom shop drawings and prototypes were developed and reviewed to refine the details and ensure the final product struck the right balance between form and function.

The biggest challenge lay in the concierge desk itself. Its flowing curves, clad in precisely detailed timber veneer panels, required innovation and craftsmanship from our joinery team. Through a combination of technical problem-solving and hands-on skill, we were able to deliver a seamless, sculptural centrepiece that anchors the space.

The completed concierge area is both practical and visually striking. The curved timber desk makes a bold architectural statement, while custom ottomans and carefully selected tables provide comfort and flexibility. The result is an environment that feels polished, professional, and inviting, perfectly reflecting the University of Auckland’s reputation for excellence.
